Is The Russell 2000 Ready To Rally Again??

Tale of the Tape

Good evening, everyone! We survived another week— cheers to that!! 🏴‍☠️ 🥂

Every major index marched higher, filling yesterday’s dip and then some. The S&P 500 ticked a new all-time high. The Russell 2000 rallied 1.76% as the small-caps closed at their highest price in over a month. See the weekly candles below. 👀 🕯

Financials was the strongest sector— $XLF flew 1.87% and closed at a new all-time high. Basic materials bounced back 1.04% after yesterday’s blunder. Utilities and consumer staples were the only sectors to close lower.

Crypto crawled back. ETH.X flopped to 2,060, but zipped back to ~2,350. Bitcoin broke below 50K for the first time since early March, although the crypto has since reclaimed the round figure.

Snap gapped up and gained 7.45% after last night’s earnings. Today was a wild ride— the stock opened at $62, tumbled to $57.32, and closed at $61.30. 🤠

Here’s the u-shaped 5-minute chart:

HubSpot hitched a ride to blue skies. 👍 $HUBS gained 5.7% for its third-straight green day.

$FOXF flew 5.55% for its fourth-straight green day. $RH ripped 5.1% and Cloudflare cruised 9.66%.

Here are the closing prints:

S&P 5004,180+1.09%
Nasdaq14,016+1.44%
Russell 20002,271+1.76%
Dow Jones34,043+0.67%

Weekly Candles 🕯

What a week. Here’s the daily breakdown of the S&P 500:

Monday ▼ 0.53%
Tuesday ▼ 0.68%
Wednesday △ 0.93%
Thursday ▼ 0.92%
Friday △ 1.09%

Now that’s a mess. 😅

The Russell 2000 ETF $IWM rallied 0.49% for the week. The small-caps closed at a new 1-month high while every other major index settled in negative territory. Is the Russell 2000 ready to rally again??

Real estate was this week’s strongest sector, followed closely by healthcare.

The Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund broke out to blue skies. ☀️ ☁️ $XLRE ran 2.03%.

The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund flew 1.81%. It too broke out to blue skies. 😁

Bitcoin broke down from ~65K to 50K over the last 2 weeks, cracking 50K for the first time since March 8th. $BTC.X bopped all the way to 47.5K before bouncing back. Was that the low?? Nobody knows. 🤷‍♂️

Ethereum freaked out and flew lower overnight. $ETH.X snapped back, and it’s still positive on the week.

A Falcon in Space 🦅 🚀

This morning at 5:49am ET, SpaceX launched the Falcon 9 rocket as its 3rd successful crewed mission of the last 12 months.

Within 12 hours, Falcon 9 will dock at the ISS and 4 astronauts (Shane Kimbrough, Megan McArthur, Akihiko Hoshide, and Thomas Pesquet) will kick off a 6-month stay in space. 🚀 🌙 They’ll also eventually join 7 other astronauts in space.

Falcon 9’s launch marks the first time astronauts have ridden a recycled rocket, a big deal for outer space sustainability. ♻️ Carissa Christensen, Founder and CEO of Bryce Space and Technology, shared:

We are essentially witnessing the creation of a new industry, and every early success is important to its growth path.

Biles Breaks Up With Nike 💔

Olympic gymnast Simone Biles just broke up with Nike— instead, the superstar athlete has entered a partnership with Gap’s Athleta brand. 🤭

Biles cited Athleta’s commitment to female empowerment as the reason for her big switch. The gymnast said:

I admire Athleta for their commitment to recognize and support women’s individual and collective strength. Together, I believe we can help girls to confidently and passionately take on the world in their athletic endeavors and beyond.

Athleta and Biles will work together to produce a line for “aspiring athletes,” specifically targeting girls. 💪 Gap gained 2.32% today.

Art That Comes with a… House?

NFTs have exploded in popularity over the last couple of months, pushing artistic boundaries further than ever before.

Kii Arens, an American graphic designer, put up a piece of video art as an NFT… and it comes with a house. 🏡

Here’s a sneak peak:

The 45-second video features a surreally-colored house and an alien invasion (the real home wasn’t damaged in the art, though. Or at least, we think). 👽 🛸

Arens says he’s inspired by pushing limits:

When I learned about the NFT space I saw a unique opportunity to utilize a platform which has more technology and opportunity behind it than a standard home sale. I immediately knew that I needed to be the very first person to explore this space.

With red hot real estate and NFT markets, we have a good feeling about this one. 🔥

Crash-Tested and Earth-Approved ✅

The IIHS awarded top Safety Picks to EVs… they’re not just Earth-friendly, they’re crash-tested, too! 🔋 ✅

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded Ford’s Mustang Mach-E a Top Safety Pick, and Volvo’s XC40 Recharge was just named a Safety Pick+.

While the Mustang Mach-E missed Safety Pick+ ratings for its standard LED projector headlights, the car still outperformed in crash tests. New studies even suggest 40% fewer injury claims associated with EVs than gas-powered vehicles.

Electric cars weigh more, and extra weight provides extra crash protection. Regarding post-crash EV fires, IIHS spokesperson Joe Young commented:

[What] we’ve seen is that EV manufacturers seem to be doing a pretty good job protecting battery cells from a pretty severe crash.
