What was Sir Isaac Newton’s favorite dessert? Apple π. 🥧😉
Pi Day is upon us, everyone. 3.14…
The ancient number sequence is the ratio of the circumference of any circle to the diameter of that circle. Archimedes of Syracuse recorded the first calculations using π in ~200 BC.
Pi Day became ingrained in pop culture in 1988 when physicist Lawrence N Shaw observed the connection between March 14 and the first 3 digits of pi.
Shaw and his wife threw the first π Day celebration by handing out slices of fruit pie and tea at 1:59 pm, as those are the next three digits in the sequence.
The day became a national holiday in 2009 after Congress passed legislation.
