Stocktwits Top 25 Week 20

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Stocktwits Top 25 Newsletter for Week #20, 2020. We’ve got some cool updates for you so check it out.

The Stocktwits Top 25 reports the top 25 performing stocks in the S&P 500 year to date (YTD) and tracks their performances over time. Here’s your Stocktwits Top 25 List for Week #20:

We got multiple requests to add Top 25’s for small caps and Nasdaq 100, so this week we’ve added 2 new tables. First, here’s the Stocktwits Top 25 for the small cap Russell 2000. It’s a good one to add because this list is lit. The Russell’s Momentum Meter nearly hit 20%. 🤯 🔥

Second, we’ve added the Nasdaq 100 Top 25. Also lit 🔥😉

The top spot in the S&P 500 goes to Dexcom which is up 90% YTD. Dexcom was added to the S&P 500 this week and so it just came out of nowhere, Cinderella Story, which we love. All of a sudden the $REGN vs $NEM feud is a race for 2nd.

The top spot on the Stocktwits R2K Top 25 goes to Novavax, which rose 137% this week. Insane. $NVAX is now up almost 1000% YTD. More on that one below.

Incidentally, every stock in the Stocktwits R2K top 25 is up over 100% YTD. These small-caps are crazy.🔥🚀⚡️

The ST Momentum Meter

The Stocktwits Momentum Meter calculates the average weekly performance of the top 25 stocks and reflects how the top stocks are performing week to week relative to the broader index.

The Stocktwits Top 25 S&P 500 Momentum Meter eased off the gas this week but still closed up 1.72%, while the S&P 500 fell -2.26%. That’s a differential of 3.98% which suggests that the top stocks in the index continue to outperform the full index.

This marks the 2nd consecutive week, and 4 of the last 5, that the Stocktwits Top 25 has outperformed the S&P 500 index.

The Stocktwits Top 25 Nasdaq 100 Momentum Meter made its debut and did not disappoint.

It returned 1.95% while the Nasdaq 100 lost 1.17%. That’s a differential of 3.12% which suggests that the top stocks in the index are outperforming the full index.

The Stocktwits Top 25 Russell 2000 Momentum Meter CRUSHED, closing up an astonishing 19.91% while the Russell 2000 fell -5.46%. A differential of 25.37%. The top performing small caps are smoking hot fueled by these smaller biotechs popping off 🚀👀

6 of the R2K 25 were up more than 20% for the week. Can this outperformance be sustained? Place your bets…

$ZM is the prototypic COVID-19 play, providing easy peasy conference calls for the throngs of newly minted work from homers. What a runaway train. 🚂

△ #5 N100 – NVIDIA Corporation rose 8.68% this week bringing its YTD performance to just over 44%. The stock closed at an all-time high with huge volume on Friday.

$NVDA has decoupled from the broader semiconductors industry, which is now down for the year. This makes the company’s performance that much more impressive as it avoids correlating with its industry. Check out the comparison chart below:

△ #9 R2K – Quidel Corporation gained 24.38% this week and grabbed the #9 spot on the ST Top 25 R2K list.

$QDEL reported blowout earnings May 8th and had a huge gap and go Monday morning to close up 31.75% on the day.

It’s up 162.92% YTD. Freakadeak.

$JD reported earnings before Friday’s open and blew it out on the bottom line. The stock is up 44.34% YTD.

$JD is an old school China B to C e-commerce play with a fascinating history. These guys have just been plugging & chugging since 1998. Respect 👊

△ #23 SP500 – General Mills, Inc. jumped 4.57% this week and edged into the ST Top 25 SP500 at #23. It is up 18.79% YTD.

$GIS has kept its supply chain of familiar food products running smoothly even as global logistics gets all snarled due to COVID. Boring can be beautiful.

△ #9 SP500 – Fortinet Inc. gained 4.82% this week. It’s up 34.35% YTD and rises to #9 from #13 on the ST Top25 SP500.

$FTNT reported strong earnings on May 6th and hasn’t looked back. Classic Earnings Trade.

The Sinners

▼ #24 R2K – Vapotherm Inc lost 6.85% this week to finish at #24 on the ST Top 25 RTK list. Despite the poor performance, $VAPO is still up 106.91% YTD. lol.

This small cap medical device co made an all time high on May 8 and gave some back this week.

▼ #7 S&P 500 – NortonLifeLock Inc fell 5.90% this week and dropped from #3 to #7. It was the worst performer on the ST Top 25 SP500.

▼ #21 SP500 – Rollins, Inc. fell 5.41% this week and dropped from #12 to #21 on the ST Top 25 SP500 list. $ROL is up 21.23% YTD.

▼ #2 N100 – Tesla fell 2.47% this week and just couldn’t close above $800. Bummer.

Here’s the daily chart.

$TSLA has been relatively quiet since CEO Elon Musk downgraded his own stock on Twitter.

Is a big move waiting in the wings? Place your bets…

▼ SP500 – Digital Realty Trust fell 9.85% this week dropping it off the list from #19. $DLR was #9 only two weeks ago, it just couldn’t keep it up. 😉
